I MET ONE OF THE COOLEST AUTHORS EVER!
If you’ve ever read or watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, you’d recognize his name. If not, Mr. Gene Luen Yang is one of the creators of Aang’s world!
It was amazing to hear him teach about his work! The first time I met him, I had no idea who he was. I’d only seen Avatar around before, but I wasn’t really interested since it was a comic (I know, kind of discriminatory).
But after I watched a few episodes with my sister and reading the comics, I was amazed at his artwork and the story concept of Avatar! Luckily for me, my parents had a friend who was friends with Mr. Yang! His wife held an event at St. Victor’s School, so on March 17, 2018, my mom took me to St. Victor’s and we were able to meet Gene Luen Yang again! XD
It was so awesome!
He’s a very easy person to talk to, very friendly, and when he signs your books, he would draw you one of the characters! Meeting an author is always an amazing experience, and I highly encourage you to do your best to see them. Most events are usually free if the author visits a library to talk about their books and interact with their fans, so you should definitely check them out.
I’m planning to be more active as an author in the summer! Nothing has been finalized yet, but once it is, I’ll let you know! 🙂
